The foundations for Annas Pepparkakor were laid by the sisters Emma and Anna Karlsson back in 1929 in their home bakery on Artillerigatan in Stockholm. Back then, they baked both ginger thins, or “Pepparkakor” in Swedish and other small cakes. The thins became very popular and the bakery expanded rapidly. The recipe for Annas Pepparkakor is a well-kept secret containing the traditional spices cinnamon, ginger and cloves. At the end of 2002 Annas was honored to be appointed purveyor to His Majesty the King of Sweden. His Majesty the King currently has about 130 selected purveyors and we are proud to be one of them. The title purveyor “To His Majesty the King” has become a symbol for Swedish quality, clear proof that a company’s products are appreciated from palace to cabin.

In 2008, AB Annas Pepparkakor was acquired by Lotus Bakeries, a Belgian family baking company. The group focuses on authentic specialties from the biscuit and cake world: original caramelized biscuits (Biscoff), gingerbread, cake specialties, waffles and pepparkakor biscuits. Lotus Bakeries, with headquarters in Belgium, is a dynamic, internationally oriented company with production facilities in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Sweden, own sales organizations in approximately 10 European countries, in the United States, Hong Kong, China, South Korea and Chile and works with commercial partners for the other countries. Lotus Bakeries produces and sells high-quality, tasty products under the Lotus, Peijnenburg and Annas brand names. By maintaining a healthy balance between tradition and innovation, Lotus Bakeries indulges consumers with a unique range of products.

Recipes & inspiration

Along with a glass of red wine and a piece of blue cheese

Orange thins with cream cheese and cold-smoked salmon

If you like it sweet…cheesecake crumble or with raspberry cream

Pepparkakor is also known as make-a-wish biscuits. There is a small game played with Pepparkakor that has survived the centuries, you place a biscuit on the palm of your hand and press it in the middle. If the biscuit breaks into three pieces, you can make a silent wish for something you want to come real.
